SUE WONG’S BEAUTIFUL HOME

It was a real treat to be invited to Sue Wong’s drop-dead gorgeous home The Cedars for her charming “My Fair Lady” event.

I only caught glimpses of Sue as she made her away around the room, but I did overhear scattered fragments of her characteristic erudite observations on fashion, mysticism and life in general. Listening to Sue Wong reminds me of graduate school, mainly because you don’t hear phrases like “modes of dress” thrown around much in the usual LA circles.

(Here’s an interview from March 11 in IndieFashionDaily.)

(PICTURES BELOW; DON’T GIVE UP.)

JIMI HENDRIX AND ISAK DINESEN

Like most very manly, macho guys, I’m a big fan of Merchant-Ivory films (doi), and being in Sue Wong’s home felt like something out of The White Countess or possibly Howards End. (Important to omit that apostophe in “Howards” or it signifies something quite different.)

The only comparable experience I’ve had recently was visiting Karen Blixen/Isak Dinesen’s home when I was in Kenya last year, which formed the textual (and textural: hey, yeah, that too) backdrop for the film Out of Africa.

Add that Jimi Hendrix supposedly wrote “Purple Haze” in one of the bedrooms, and I was on proverbial cloud 9. (See the pics in the very-red room.)

This LA Fashion Week stuff is all right.

At any rate, lately things just don’t seem the same.

IN THIS PICTURE SET, WE SEE (I THINK)

Actress Yari De Leon, who appears opposite Ryan Phillippe in Matthew McConaughey’s The Lincoln Lawyer. (As photographed by Tim Regas. Yari sports Sue Wong dress, Alisa Michelle earrings, Mary Frances handbag.)
Actress Bridget Marquardt, Girl Next Door, full of pep and charm.
Actress Gina Holden, self-professedly “goofy” Saw 3D hero-victim.
Actress Valery Ortiz, looking shocked at my customarily shocking comments.
Youngsters Matthew Glen Johnson and Madison Leisle.
Tiara Chiaramonte of Niche Magazine with Sonya Barrett, Emily Wells, and photographer Nick Asokan.
Jewelry by Vilaiwan.
Michelle Chin and Carin von Berg.
Viviana Vigil, hostess of ReelzChannel.
Melody Lee of Audrey Magazine. (Not sure I got a pic of Melody: but here’s a link so you can pester them for one.)
Sade Strehlke of The Iron Concierge.
MYFDB‘s Amy Gin and Vaneza Pitynski.
Jillian Rose Reed of MTV’s This is Awkward with friend Brittney Berault.

My personal favorite, fashion designer John Allen Thompson wearing the dangle earrings and a t-shirt that he designed himself. We just may need to profile this guy. The world needs more originals like this.

p.s. Obviously I am a musician and not a pro photographer, but if you have a favorite pic I will sharpen it by request. Just let me know. I’m helpful like that.
